Our Story
Three generations of master artisans of artistic glass
The story of Vetrate Artistic Grassi began in Milan in 1946, when Florindo Grassi founded an artisan workshop dedicated to the processing of artistic glass. From the outset, the company has stood out for the quality of its creations and for the rigor with which the traditional techniques of master glassmakers are respected. In 1957 he joined the founder, his son Alessandro Grassi, who helped to expand the company's reach to highly prestigious national and international clients. Today the company is led by Barbara Grassi and her son-in-law Antonello, who carry on the business with the same artisanal dedication as the origins, combining tradition with the needs of contemporary design.
A family business with international awards
Over the decades, Vetrate Artistic Grassi has collaborated with some of the most important architects and artists of the twentieth century, including Caccia Dominioni, Capogrossi, Enrico Castiglioni, Salvatore Fiume, Oscar Niemeyer, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Aligi Sassu, Ettore Sottsass jr. and Luigi Veronesi. These collaborations have helped to define a recognizable style, capable of merging historic craftsmanship with the visions of the great masters of modern art and architecture.
The works created by the Milanese laboratory are now found in places of worship, private residences and public spaces spread over five continents. From Milan Cathedral to cathedrals in Japan, Singapore and Ivory Coast, from private villas in the Middle East to international airports, each window bears the unmistakable signature of Milanese craftsmanship. The Milan Chamber of Commerce recognized this path with the Gold Medal Diploma, and the Lombardy Region awarded Alessandro Grassi the Lombardy Prize for Work 2003.
